The audition was held for a first impression of the skills of the contestants and to introduce the staff to the contestants.

The favourites of the jury will be published on the UFC website in alphabetic order.

UFC International [26 July 2002]
A detailed report of the training and semi-finals at the Marine Corps will be published in the German September issue of the magazine "Muscle & Fitness". With this exposure we hope that the UFC fever will break out in Germany. The expectation is that the number of German entries in 2003 will increase considerably. This year there were three participants from Germany.

Ultimate Fighting Challenge?? [12 July 2002]
On Thursday 11 July the Marine Corps and the UFC organization gathered in the Bridge Restaurant at Schiphol  as an extra gesture of thanks towards all Marines who laboured for the UFC "Long Hell Weekend". An enjoyable meeting with a sumptuous Chinese-Japanese diner as a starting point. However, it turned into a battle with the UFC; no, not Thé UFC, but the Ultimate Fighting Challenge. The Marines had to fight each other with the Sony computergame "Tekken" for an attractive prize as a souvenir. In the course of the game feelings were running high and soon the Marines turned out that with that kind of a computergame in their hands  they also can be like big children.

Commemorative plaques for Marines [11 July 2002]
To keep the Marines memory of the UFC 2002 alive the UFC organization felt that it would be a good idea to offer all the Marine stations that supported the UFC a commemorative plaque on behalf of the UFC organization. Each of the stations in Doorn, Den Helder, Texel and of course the headquarters in Rotterdam received their own commemorative plaque.

Many reactions on "Long Hell Weekend" [10 July 2002]
For the UFC organization it was certain that the "Long Hell Weekend" at the Marine Corps would leave a deep impression on the contestants. Almost all contestants expressed - by mail of e-mail - their appreciation for the weekend. It pleases the organization that almost all contestants  considered it as a good experience, including the contestants that dropped out and in some cases even stayed in spite of their injuries, just to experience everything from close by.

Hermina van Dijk Wins Semifinal UFC 2002 [30 June 2002]
The Long Hell Weekend at the Marine Corps has taken place. From Thursday 27 until Sunday 30 June the UFC contestants went through a sublime training and semifinal, and the top 20 is determined by now. Although the top 5 scores were near each other, Hermina van Dijk achieved the best overall score.

Nearly 20 % Contestants Drops Out Of the Semifinal [30 June 2002]
Already in the first hours of the training and the semifinal contestants dropped out. Heddy Schelthorst suffered from fear of heights, Trijntje Medema as a result of an injury from an earlier training. Shortly afterwards Minke Adema because she jumped the wrong way from an obstacle on the assault course; she injured her knee and had to be taken to hospital. By now Minke recovered quite well. Also Miranda Bron, Marike Leys, Suzy Gijs, Annabelle Feuerstein, Sandra Tazelaar dropped out with injuries at knees and ankles. Anja Bosteels dropped out as a result from an earlier nose surgery from which she had not fully recovered.

UFC Ladies Experience Marine Corps Discipline [30 June 2002]
Even the Marines are not used to a group of 50 ladies. Not feeling quite comf
ortable the UFC contestants were confronted with the strict rules of the Marine Corps. The UFC ladies didn't avoid this 'ultimate' challenge and simply did their own things between training and contest. Rules are rules said the Marines and recalcitrant UFC ladies were disciplinary taken in hand and side by side marched off in the pouring rain to the mess-room. An act was performed: the Marines are in charge.

Marine Corps Instructors Impressed [30 June 2002]
Even the Marine Corps Instructors, used to quite something after all, were very much impressed by the UFC ladies.  They didn't withhold their reaction and expressed their admiration for the ladies' performances, which in many cases could match with those of many men.
Climbing and clambering up to over 70 m. above the ground, a catcrawl over a length of 40 m. at a height of 70 m. Everything safely ensured and under the professional direction of the Marines the UFC ladies got through the disciplines. Although many contestant shed tears over the enormous heights almost all contestants were not put of and proved therefore to have an 'ultimate' mentality.

Marines Turn Their Hands To Anything [30 June 2002]
During the UFC training and semifinal the Marine Corps proved their ability to turn their hands to anything. Training as well as mental coaching, the very professional direction and surveillance of all disciplines is typical of them. As if the Marines work on automatic pilot, everything takes place in a strict and triple checked way, nothing is left to chance. The UFC organization is therefore very much impressed by the tremendous performance put up by the Marine Corps.

UFC 2002 Audition Day, crowded but successful [29 May 2002]
It was obvious that a lot of UFC contestants would come, the UFC organization did however not expect the actual number of visitors. SiS Sport in Almere was pleasantly surprised with so many fans..
And of course the organization is also pleased with these signs of interest, because it means that there are a lot of people that sympathize with the contestants and The Ultimate Fitness Challenge.
The organization feels compelled to look for a bigger accommodation at future meetings. However, these are all signs that the UFC keeps on growing.

Ingrid Roefs struck by injury [25 May 2002]
Many UFC site visitors may have read the UFC diary Ingrid Roefs last year. Anyhow an impressive and live description of Ingrid's experiences in the UFC 2001. Unfortunately Ingrid was forced to call off the UFC 2002. But Ingrid doesn't give up and will be training for the UFC 2003 after her recovery.

Carrol Buenting in happy expectancy... [18 May 2002]
After having dropped out in 2001 too soon from the contest unfortunately, Carrol Buenting set her mind on the UFC in 2002. There she could show what she was capable of, the already gained experience would benefit her, her revenge was coming. The opposite turned out to be true, something else was coming. Shortly after her registration for the UFC 2002 Carrol turned out to be in happy expectancy.
The UFC organization wishes Carrol and her husband good luck with the little one coming.
